Why You Need To Visit The Charming Neighborhood of Kaimuki, 10 Minutes Away From Waikiki

It’s no secret that the island of O’ahu is home to amazing beaches, breath-taking views, and an activity for everyone. With Honolulu being the only “city” in the state, the island’s neighborhood communities offer rich and unique cultures of their own. One neighborhood in particular shines out in its own way- Kaimuki’s business district. Just a short 10-minute drive down Kapahulu from Waikiki and up Waialae Ave, visitors and locals alike are met with one of a kind small business boutiques, happening coffee shops, and some of the best foods on island. An easily walk-able and charming neighborhood, Kaimuki is considered one of the many great gems of Honolulu. While maintaining happening events and the working community around it, this quaint area still is able to offer a very relaxed and comfortable vibe.

From upper Waialae, where you can see beautiful ocean views, you have access to incredible food at KokoHead Cafe, delicious burgers at Chubbies, and fantastic coffee blends at Bean About Town. Looking for some shopping? Head down 10th Ave, where you will find the most adorable tea and gift boutique nestled into the sturdy brick building. Adorned with locally made window-art, and carefully curated items for the body and mind, Ami + Mei is one tea shop you do not want to miss. When entering this Kaimuki shop, you will be offered a taste of tea while you look through the available Hawai’i grown teas and mindfully imported items. Once you’ve finished up smelling and sipping the best teas Honolulu has to offer, head next door to Otto Cake for a slice of fantastic cheesecake or one of his other delectable desserts.

After a stroll through Kaimuki, one can feel the sense of community and individuality that pulses through the air. Around every corner and in every window on-lookers will see ‘Keep It Kaimuki’ stickers, an ode to the tight knit neighborhood community that has become the foundation to Kaimuki. Whether you are looking to grab a bite, wander through a charming boutique, or find your newest favorite coffee or tea, Kaimuki truly does offer it all.
